Den forbedrer ionisation ved bueplasmasvejsning, som er en almindeligt anvendt metode til produktion af biler og vindturbiner. Den anvendes ogs\u00e5 som en beskyttelsesatmosf\u00e6re til reaktionsvilligt metal under varmebehandling for at undg\u00e5 nitrogenreaktion, eller hvor nitrogen skal ekskluderes helt. Anvendelsen af argon som en beskyttelsesatmosf\u00e6re er ogs\u00e5 almindelig til halvledningsanvendelser, f.eks. opn\u00e5else af siliciumkrystaller til wafer-fremstilling.\u00a0Den anvendes ogs\u00e5 som en beskyttelsesgas til gl\u00f8delamper, og det er en vigtig del af lysstofr\u00f8r, hvor den afgiver et bl\u00e5t sk\u00e6r, samt i lavenergilamper.<\/p>\n<h6>Argon forbedrer st\u00e5lkvalitet og holder f\u00f8devarer friske<\/h6>\n<p>Argon anvendes ogs\u00e5 til metalraffinering, til materialer s\u00e5som \u00e6delst\u00e5l, -aluminium eller -titanium.\u00a0Den anvendes til afgasning og omr\u00f8ring for at forhindre oxidering, sikre j\u00e6vnt opvarmede smeltemasser og pr\u00e6cis specifikation af sammens\u00e6tninger samt reducere tab af krom under fremstilling af \u00e6delst\u00e5l.\u00a0Et andet omr\u00e5de eller anden anvendelse er inertering og udskylning af lagertanke og r\u00f8rledninger p\u00e5 kemikalie- og medicinalfabrikker.\u00a0Desuden anvendes argon ofte i f\u00f8devareindustrier, is\u00e6r som emballagegas. Da tung argon gennemtr\u00e6nger oxygen og fugtig luft i emballagen, holdes f\u00f8devarerne friske l\u00e6ngere. Merkurs atmosf\u00e6re best\u00e5r af 70 % argon, hvilket kan sammenlignes med 0,93 % af jordens atmosf\u00e6re.<\/li>\n<li>Navnet argon stammer fra det gr\u00e6ske ord &#8220;argos&#8221;, som betyder tr\u00e6g eller doven.<\/li>\n<li>Allerede i slutningen af 1700-tallet var der forskere, som havde en formodning om, at det, der senere blev kendt som argon, var at finde som en bestanddel af almindelig luft, men det var ikke til 100 \u00e5r senere, at \u00e9n forsker rent faktisk form\u00e5ede at bevise det p\u00e5 to forskellige m\u00e5der.
